Welcome to our 89th edition of COSBEAUTY Magazine! The beauty industry has long advocated self-care and positivity and, amidst the ongoing COVID-19, there has never been a more important time to pamper ourselves and look after our general well-being.

Beauty is about creativity and self-expression, and indulging in beauty rituals and home spa experiences can help us switch off, find comfort and feel better about ourselves. To get you started, check out our ‘Ultimate Staycation Guide’ on page 28 – we’ve curated some of our favourite sensory products that will help satisfy your wanderlust without leaving home.

With more time spent at home, social media usage is also on the rise. While we love a good selfie as much as the next person, it’s important to differentiate reality vs filter. ‘Ready, set, selfie’ on page 58 is a fascinating article by body image researcher Roberta Honigman on the danger of losing touch with our real appearance and obsessing over the filtered image version of ourselves. We also get a plastic surgeon’s perspective on how selfies and celebrities are influencing our perception of beauty and changing the landscape of cosmetic enhancement (page 64).

The cooler months are the perfect time to take stock of your skincare routine. In our articles ‘Skincare essentials’ (page 42) and ‘Body routine for super-soft skin’ (page 100), we look at the steps and products to achieve glowing skin on the face and body (yes, even in winter).

We also highlight the huge boom in sheet masks on page 88 and share the best-in-class products to de-stress, detox and beautify your skin. Unleash your creativity with our cult list of makeup must-haves on page 68. These are the transforming products every makeup lover should have in their kit.

We also examine the many types of lip products (page 78) – from the OG lipstick to the lip stain – and showcase our favourite bronzers and illuminators to flaunt the best faux glow (page 92).

On a more serious note, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment of this desease. Our article on page 110 explains ways to decrease your risk and emphasises the importance of self-checking during COVID-19, as statistics show a 30 percent drop in referrals to cancer specialists during this time.
